New York Fashion Week S/S 2011: Rodarte

Designers: Kate and Laura Mulleavy

Inspiration/Theme: The Californian redwood forests (the Mulleavy sisters' former backyard before they moved to Pasadena).

Color Palate: Brown (in numerous shades), grey, navy/cobalt blue, white, chartreuse, gold, and black.

Notable Pieces: The layered dresses, the white and cobalt Chinese pottery garments, the gladiatorial pieces, the shoulderless jackets, and the intricately carved wooden heels.

Final Thought: I am elated to see Rodarte's sartorial aptitude come through on the runway for Spring. I also applaud them for pulling off a grand departure from their shredded fringe dresses from seasons past, whilst maintaining their noted whimsy. A job well done ladies.
