In quintessential, and sporadic, Marc Jacobs fashion; the look this season is a complete antithesis of the last. Farewell curvaceous women in muted tones, and welcome lank dames in luscious color! Marc was looking to the 70's for Spring; with the romantic hues, to the models' lack of brow (a look that I, personally, have never been fond of). The collection had numerous references, the most obvious was the South (I'd say Southern California/Northern Mexico in the 1970's); from the gigantic upturned straw hats, the voluminous ruffles, to the oversized chin-grazing corsages. As for the earthen palate, terracotta, brown, faded carrot-orange, beige, fulvous, burgundy, deep cerise, light pink, eggplant, straw yellow, white, gold, and black dominated the looks. What I found particularly intriguing was Marc's references to his fellow designers; I saw a clear reference to Missoni from the dress with the horizontal zigzags, there was a bit of Sonia Rykiel in the horizontal stripes, I even saw a touch of Chanel in the white suit coat toward the end.
I found Marc Jacobs' latest collection enjoyable to watch. The concept was fun, and one can really see that Marc relishes in his creative process. I didn't feel that it was his most revolutionary body of work. But, in all reality, Marc's influence within fashion is nearly insurmountable; I think it's alright for him to have a few fluff collections every now and then.
